Jets Light up Christmas... December 31st, 2009
The Coventry Jets helped light up Christmas as they switched
on the lights at the local TGI Fridays before making an appearance in the City
Centre to help Beverly Knight get Coventry into the Christmas spirit. Jets’
mascot CeeJay threw the switch at TGIs as the newly refurbished restaurant
began their festive celebrations, then the playful jaguar was joined on the
Leofric Hotel’s balcony by Jets offensive linemen Paul Rickhuss and Adam
O’Reilly as well as a host of stars as they took part in Mercia Sound’s
seasonal festivities culminating in the big Xmas Lights Switch On.
Among the celebrities were other local sports stars such as
Tom Watkins and Tom Ledgard of Elite League ice hockey outfit the Coventry
Blaze and Jamie Hall and Louis McGowan of the city’s struggling Championship
rugby club. Also on hand were Miss Coventry, Miss Rugby, Mr England and former
Jets cheerleader Chelsie Griffin who was on hand as Miss Hinckley 2009. R&B
singer Knight wasn’t the only big name in attendance, Martin Freeman, star of “The
Office” and Coventry based Christmas comedy hit “Nativity!”, also made an
appearance. As part of the day’s activities Rickhuss and
O’Reilly’s general knowledge was put to the test as they finished runner up to
their rugby union counterparts for title of trivia kings amongst the city’s
sporting teams. “It’s great to be involved in something like this and get the
chance to give something back to the City as a thank you for the support we’ve
had” stated Rickhuss “we had so many people come up to us and wish us well for
next season and I was amazed by how much they knew about the club and the signings
we’ve made for 2010, it should be another great year for us”.
